Standardized Test Recommendation - 10 Meter Walk Test
Have you used the 10 Meter Walk Test recently? This is one of the options under the Standardized Tests folder in SMART File Documents, under the "Vitals and Gait Speed" folder. The required information, which includes the test itself as well as the results graph, is also listed below.
The 10MWT formula can be utilized for various walking distances, especially where space is limited. There must be a ramp up area for the gait speed and ramp down. Basically, the patient needs to be able to start walking a couple of steps before crossing the starting line for timing and cross the finish line with room for a couple of steps.
The calculation used is: distance walked / time in seconds
For example: 8 meters / 12 seconds = 0.66
The results graph notes this patient as "limited community ambulator," with a need for skilled therapy services, and at risk for increased dependence and hospitalization within 1 year.
